Feeling the need to expand my horizons a bit, so I've decided to make the trek down to Mission Bay Saturday Sunday morning for the first time. Planning to launch from Mariner's Point Park and heading out towards the breakwater with the last of the outgoing tide and then back into the bay when the tide changes at 6:30am. I figure that way I can fish both open water parts of the bay earlier and the docks in Quivera Basin later, if the open water isn't paying off.

A friend that sometimes rents a skiff there says the open water is generally more productive.

Any tips or suggestions?

I'll be leaving Long Beach at 3:00 am - if anyone wants to ride along, let me know!

[looks like it might be windy there on Saturday, so switching to Sunday]

Watch out for the boat traffic. Usually pretty heavy going in and out of the bay between the jetties.

Good tip, thanks! I always stay close to the rocks and I'll be especially wary in a new spot.

I've had enough encounters with parked boats to be double careful around moving ones.

Boat traffic has been insane these past weeks, I would just stay in Mariner's Basin

Thanks!

Boat traffic was fairly constant but I didn't have any issues and I kicked across to Quivira Basin and back. Lots of salad in the water.

It was my day for a little of everything... a calico, two spotties, a hali and two macks... all dinks. One of the macks was basically a large sardine. If I was on a party boat, it would have been bait, and he chewed up my Keitech.

The thing about Mission Bay is there's just so much of it. I can see that it would take a lot of trips to really get to know the place. I will definitely be going back.

Nice, no skunk! That's how I feel about OC/LA area tons of spots, but here in MB most of it is shore accessible unlike OC/LA, which explains all the monsters
