Do any of you guys who fish reasonable sized likes ever use a drogue from the tube to A) slow your drift and B) put you sideways on to the wind?

I saw this on the site I ordered my tube from

I ask as I've got a few days camping alongside England's biggest lake in a few weeks time it measures 14 miles long and upto 1 mile wide, it has its own micro climate so it can be sunny one minute and blowing a hoolie and raining cats and dogs the next. I have a basic anchor that should work should i need it but feel I need to be prepared for every eventuality, whilst thinking about things on the way home from my nightshift I was thinking surely I could make something relatively simple that word work and then I thought, hmmm buckets tend to float, so do we think a 5 litre bucket on a short length of paracord would act as a drogue? Carrying it would be no hassle as it would slot inside the other (I've still to get) that will hold my fish finder battery.

Maybe there's room for experiment seen as it'll cost next to nothing to trial

I have not not tried that myself, but maybe you can report back.

My local lake has winds that can carry me 2 miles if I let it. Not really out of the walking realm , but awfully inconvenient. I tie onto stuff at times, but do not carry an anchor. Maybe I need to work on it a bit more. Mainly in the wind I hunker down in coves or behind an embankment of some sort.

I hope this helps.

I just recently got one from BassPro: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I got the rather large 30" version and have not had the chance to try it. One observation is that it is very well built and therefore a little bulky. That is not a problem for my toon but would be a bigger problem with my tube. I think I would just throw it behind the seat for use on the FishCat.
I also think they can be useful but only in limited circumstances, such as when the wind is blowing the length of the lake and you want to drift in that direction along the shoreline.
