Took a half day today and went to my stretch of the bay in Long Beach. I caught and released over 30 bass. Make that 'Micro Bass'. Mix of Spotted, Sand and Calico Bass with the largest at 11" and smallest at 5". I stick one real good Spotted Bay Bass and when I saw color, she tossed my bait and off she goes. That bass was going to be well over 12" for sure. Well.. it happens! My first contribution to this tournament is a Tourney legal Halibut. Whether the judges accept my entry or not is up to them. I had my fingers in lower gill area. I took this photo and tried for a photo with no hand holding the fish and ya... Maybe the rules need to be changed. This 16" Halibut went crazy on my lap while snapping his JAWS. Halibut have teeth. SHARP teeth! He jumped so high off my apron I swatted gently and back in ocean he goes and straight back to the bottom. I don't know how you guys feel about some parts of the rules but, I really believe parts need revision for allowing certain measuring methods. Halibut and Sculpin should be allowed to use a hand or a lip gripper tool. This little Halibut almost ended up UNDER my apron at one time. Let me know what you guys think. I am only giving ideas so fish don't hurt us fisherman in a float tube!

Congratz on that legal Hali bro!!
It seems like the dinks are all on a suicide mission now that the contest is on.
I left my hand on my bass so it would not jump as well. I say do what works for you and let the judges make a call.

Thanks for sharing.

volcomsurfrider is on the board with a nice halibut. I am listening and i am sure we will need to adjust the rules slightly to both protect the fishermen and fish over all. Great work be safe and thanks for being involved.

BTW, here is the clamp idea I had for tournament card.

First, I laminated the card, bought the laminate at Staples, "Fellows, 4.33X6.22 inches........$10

Second, found an old clip

Third, glued laminate to clip, superglue

Great idea! I have a new bump board on order. I just don't have the time to modify my apron. I opted for a solid bump board. Too bad BassPro stopped selling their bump measure boards. Those were like $6 and the locked in the center preventing it from opening beyond flat.

tough day of fishing for me. i went out twice this week and it was a really slow day of fishing. caught total 1 short wsb, 3 bass, and 1 legal spotty. unfortunately i cant get a accurate measurement of the fish coz i dont have a bump measuring board and my ftff tournament print out flew out of my hand. i need to make a DIY measuring board.
