Thought I would pay a visit to my local tackle store today to see if i could find a spinning rod to match my Shimano Bantam mag.
I already have an ugly stik one piece 6' rod but have always been on the lookout for something a bit smaller.
Had a look at a few nice 2 piece rods when the guy said he had something special on consignment.
I reckon I had this rod in my hands for about 2 seconds and jumped on it. Never seen one before and the sales guy said the same, it was a Shakespeare Ugly Stik Platinum model USP-CA1146. 4'6" long and a really light action. Perfect for the FT. I believe they were made for kayak fishing but i can find very little about it on the net.
A few pics attached.

Interesting indeed. Cant help but note the printed length and line rating. Tells me this may have been an export only item destined for another county for sale and wandered back to the states. My lightweight Ugly stick spinning rod is 5 ft. 2 in. long and love it. It makes the little uns feel big and the big uns feel gigantic. Great rod that handles fish far larger than other rods in its class .

Hi TF, i think this rod was made for the Australian market as I have not been able to find it listed on any US sites.

SORRY MOTORAZR !

Totally missed the fact you were from OZ . That would indeed explain that great find. I have actually used ice fishing rods which are only 2 ft. long for the pure sport of it all and am in the development stage of building something a bit heavier in the appx. 3 1/2 ft. range . Am looking for a used Ugly stick medium spinning rod to rework the guides on the top section and use a nice reel seat with a longer handle for better leverage when needed . Curious where you might fish there in OZ. We yanks tend to see too much TV here leading us to think anything that doesnt have Great Whites in it looking to make a snack of you has an abundance of Crocodiles with the same thought in mind. What types of interesting fish do you have there you enjoy catching ?

Interesting...does using "quick reply" not
show up as a post??? This is the test. I was
wondering why my numbers don't change??

Ok, that explains that. If you use "quick reply"
do don't get credit for a post. Hmmm....many
little quirks with this forum. Now if I can
figure out how some people stay at the top of the list but you rarely see them post???
I really need to get a life affraid

If you lived in the northern hemisphere of Australia I think you would be risking it in a float tube and end up entree for some croc, as most rivers have a resident bitey living in them. Great Whites are a problem in the south in some areas, more so in South Australia and Western Australia. I live metro Adelaide and we get the occassional shark in close to shore during the summer months especially around the in shore reefs along the coast line, one just has to use a bit of sense. Most common sharks are the occasional thresher, a few school shark and mostly bronze whalers
I wouldn't drag a bag of fish behind me if I could help it.
I usually fish off man made structure in the open water but we have a few local rivers that produce good bream and mulloway and smaller species such as mullet and Australian salmon.
Must admit though that most places you go around here has got some sort of bitey looking to get you if you are not careful, like snakes or centipedes/spiders.
I think most aussies as kids get it drummed into them by mum and dad to watch where they walk if out in the bush, but even then we get the odd snake in the back yard sometimes, not to mention redback spiders in the south of Australia or funnel web spiders around sydney. Apart from the red back everything else automatically wants a piece of you.LOL.
It's not as bad as I make out, you just have to be careful.
I suppose it's relative to where you live, I see the States as somewhere where if you go river fishing a bear will get you, or a rabies infested raccoon will hunt you down.LOL Smile

Nice. I own 2 older 30th anniversary series ugly sticks. They have been used and abused. I have come accross several other rods that I didnt have an issue parting with. Im stuck to these. Great action, super strong and can cast a mile. Gonna dust it off for this weekend.
