Well as some of you may know I just got back (in Septemberish) from a deployment to the middle east. Didn't get to go to Afghanistan although we were headed there...guess that can be viewed as a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. My unit was on a Marine Expeditionary Unit which pretty much means we are on a boat and the Navy takes us to wherever we have to go to do our thing. Most of the time we were sitting in the middle of the ocean waiting to be called in somewhere.....but I did have the fortune of doing some fishing in a few other countries. I was at a HUGE disadvantage because time was limited and it's hard finding other people who love fishing as much as I do. Also, try going to a different country with no knowledge of the fish in that location or trying to find a spot to fish from shore....it's hard. Most Marines love getting drunk in different ports but I took a different approach....here are a few pics and videos from my travels. Hope you enjoy!

Me fishing from the ship.....almost impossible to do in the middle of the ocean with a light spinning rod and ten pound test. Next time I'll be more prepared:

This was caught by another guy off the boat (or ship if your a dirty sailor lol):

These were all caught by me in Australia from a local fishing pier. All were caught by me except the weird looking catfish my buddy caught:

Me rocking the sweet mustache and a crappy pair of polarized sunglasses I picked up:

Bait and Wait!

The following were all caught in Dubai. I paid over $300 to go on a boat expecting to catch some BIG fish....all we got were Baracuda....oh well.

Pretty cool gaff shot:

Shaved head and no stache.....by the way the deployment stache brought me good luck on deployment. I was kinda mad that I shaved it here:

This was caught in Hawaii....look familiar? Caught on a local favorite though...the T&C Swimgrub!

These were caught in the country of Jordan:

These were caught in Phuket, Thailand:

We went out in search of big ones...and got small ones:

After catching a bunch of small fish in Thailand we stopped and cooled off in the water. The deckhands cooked our fish while we swam around. I dropped my gopro in the water...here's what it captured:

Another clip:

In Australia I hooked up with 3 bigger sized fish. We were fishing from a pier at night and it was impossible for us to bring the fish up for a pic. On the third one my buddy took this video...you can see the fish in the video. It turned out to be a queenfish...but not the one's we have here in Southern California. It was caught on another local favorite...the T&C Cali killer:

And this is a video I made from one of the countries we were in while training the local Army to go to Afghanistan. If you like guns, tanks, and big explosions you'll like this video. Unfortunately the music is louder than some of the explosions but it's still good. Video was taken with my gopro mounted on my helmet and my buddy's helmet cam (forget what kind). Hope you like:

All in all it was an awesome expereience. I didn't catch the biggest fish but not many people can say that have fished in other countries before....and I did it for free (sorta)
